Breakdown: Week 3 was crappy for Me!

Monday: After the long run on Sunday, it was a much-deserved rest day. I finally figured out how to deal with these days... if I can't run, I'm going to read a book about running! I managed to finish Dean Karnazes' "Run! 26.2 Stories of Blisters and Bliss." It was a "vignette book," so it made for quick reading. Very enjoyable & helped get me through the doldrums of no physical activity.

Tuesday: Hit the gym, as usual, with my personal trainer. It was a leg day, so we hit them heavy. I wasn't up for the interval circuit-type training, so we focused directly on heavy lifting. And as usual, I didn't get sore after the fact.

Wednesday: The first run of the week. I was concerned because I felt a bit stiff out of the gate, but I warmed up to it pretty well. I changed my R/W intervals to 17/1 & maintained an average of a 11:24 pace. I was satisfied with the effort. I'm trying to up the mileage a bit during the week, so being able to run a bit faster would be very helpful to my cause.

Thursday: My trainer is out of town, so this became a rest day by default. Sure, I could've done my arms/shoulders/back on my own, but I decided to maximize my day by resting & cleaning up a bit around the house. Plus, my legs still felt a bit smoked from the previous morning.

Friday: It was a big day at work, so I decided to skip the morning run. I had to spend a lot of time outside, so I didn't want to run in the morning & get overheated... because if I get overheated, I stay overheated. Instead, I went to work & had a great & successful day.

Saturday & Sunday: I completely fell apart. There's no other way to put it. I'd planned to make up Friday on Saturday; I didn't. Instead, I cleaned the upstairs area of my house. Figured that was okay because I'd be running on Sunday. Well, I forgot to set my alarm & didn't wake up nearly early enough to run for an hour & a half. I was simply wiped. I understand why... to be honest, ladies understand this type of thing can happen once a month (the only description you're going to get). I did the math & realized I always feel like this at a particular time. Now that I understand that, I will fight it off next time.

Week 4 is going to be a fresh start for me. Back on the eating plan, back to the running, & I plan to add yoga back into my routine. Also, Mr. X is coming home; I'm sure that'll help cheer me up. Onto Week 4... it's gotta be more productive than Week 3!

  1. Funny, I had a similar week! Mon & Tues were good... did absolutely nothing on Wed & Thurs, had a session with a trainer on Fri. Thought about skipping it but didn't. That was probably the only thing I did right, altho I did run this evening (if you can call it running...) Same reasons, too. I was pissed about the 3 lbs that appeared out of nowhere for no valid reason. NOT FAIR.

  2. My trainer has advised me to stop weighing & pay more attention to how my clothes fit. Makes me feel way more successful, since women's bodies fluctuate so much month-to-month.

As for falling apart, we should stop. Let's collectively pick ourselves up off the ground & get a fresh start this week. I'm running 5 miles today after work or tomorrow. How about you?
