First day of Training Schedule! ...& a head cold?

Today is the first "real" day of my training schedule for the Gardaland half marathon on 6 May 2012. And since it's Monday, that means a rest day. It's a bit weird, really... starting a training cycle with a rest day. But I'm definitely glad because I'm still suffering the ravages of the common head cold. I'm hoping I'll feel well enough tomorrow to start the actual running part of the training.

Since I spent the weekend with my nemesis, the head cold, I spent a lot of time watching movies & catching up on TV shows. I'm all caught up on Downton Abbey, Merlin, House, Castle, The Good Wife, & The Vampire Diaries. Yes, some very guilty pleasures in that list. I also watched the 25th Anniversary "The Phantom of the Opera at Royal Albert Hall." Phantom was the first musical I was ever really interested; I've been in love with the music since I was about 14 years old. I saw it on Broadway when I was about 15 or so... & have continued loving it. As such, I had no idea about this 25th Anniversary recording. The minute I saw it on Apple TV, I rented it. And since I was sick, Mr. X kindly gave me the TV for the entire day. It's about 3 hours of viewing, but 100% worth it. There were even appearances from Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber (yes, he's a Lord; I did my research) AND the original cast!!!

L-R: Sarah Brightman, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Michael Crawford, Sierra Boggess, Ramin Karimloo

Ramin Karimloo plays the Phantom & Sierra Boggess as Christine Daae. Watching these two together, it's a whole different show. Seriously. I don't know if it's simply that I'm older & understand complex emotion or what, but these two actors brought something entirely new to the production. It was incredible!!!

So what did I do after I watched it? I got 2 tickets for Her Majesty's Theatre in April so Mr. X & I can see the show in London! Sure, it'll be the regular cast (i.e. not Karimloo & Boggess), but I think it'll be a great way to end our trip.

That's how I spent my weekend... sick & curled up with the Phantom. I hope you all had a better weekend than I did!

    1. Actually, the winter thing sucks. We're supposed to go skiing for this coming weekend, which is why I'm overdoing it on sleep & meds. I want to be healthy for ski mini-break! But thanks so much... trying to figure out what to do about this training schedule thing. I know people run with head colds, but I'm not sure I'm hardcore enough for that.

  2. Bonnie: Not only do we have skiing in common, we both love broadway too!! I saw Phantom in Toronto in 1990 or 1991. I too need to see it again to appreciate it more. When I was in high school (circa 1985), I saw CATS at the New London Theatre in London. Will never forget that performance. I hope you feel better this week. Get lots of rest!!

    1. OMG!! If you can get the 25th anni blu ray (or dvd, if you prefer), DOITDOITDOIT!!!! Even better in surround sound, I'm sure. I've always been super picky about my Phantom. I've never seen anyone who could kick Michael Crawford's butt... but this is the guy. He sings it a completely different way & acts the hell out of it! Please, if you do watch it, let me know what you think. I've been listening to it ever since I watched it Saturday... because my immediate response was to download the soundtrack.

As for Cats, you're on your own. Never could get into that one. ;D Other faves: Joseph...Dreamcoat (ALW again!), Godspell, & of course Les Miserables.
